Introduction
Welcome, this is a preamble to my dating guidance articles that I have written for single men who have experienced a prostate cancer (PC) diagnosis and undergone radical prostatectomy surgery or radiation treatment.
The creation of these articles is to fill the void in the collection of literature found within the prostate cancer world which is dominated by references to a male patient and their “partner” assisting in the rehabilitation of the man’s sexual functions.
Contrary to all the prostate cancer specialists, including my own, not all prostate cancer patients have partners. Therefore, for the single guy recovering from his operation or treatment, the journey to partial or full recovery can be lonely without the support of a partner. It is the objective of these articles to assist men in meeting women and develop relationships that will enhance the rehabilitation process.
I have aimed these articles at a target audience of 50 plus year old single men, who after surgery have discovered that their best buddy in all previous years of solo or coupled sexual adventures, is now their floppy friend. These articles hope to provide both you and your flaccid friend with the much-needed reassurance that there can be a dating and a sex life after your operation.
As I started writing these blogs, I realised that I could not successfully explore dating and sex following prostate cancer surgery without providing insight and advice to the female partner in your relationship. For this reason, I would like to thank the beautiful women in my life that have given me guidance and feedback on meeting, dating and having sex with a man recovering from a prostatectomy.
So, for those guys who have had the prostate cancer chop or radiation treatment, who are single and can still remember what is was like to go dating, I hope these guidance notes are helpful, guiding and supportive.
